Post Work Programme Support (PWPS)Background Commitment to "create a single welfare to work programme to help all unemployed people get back into work". This commitment was met by the introduction of the Work Programme in May 2011. The Government’s approach to welfare to work provision is based on the principle that the longer a jobseeker remains on benefit the more the Department will expect them to do to look for and secure sustainable employment. In preparation for national roll out of Post Work Programme Support (PWPS), trailblazers were run in four Districts to test and evaluate what support works best to support the long-term unemployed.
The PWPS Offer For JSA claimants completing the Work Programme, the support offered comprises of two key elements: Jobcentre Plus Offer – the current offer of flexible personalised support is offered to claimants with relevant recent work experience (three months or more during their time on the Work Programme); and Mandatory Intervention Regime(MIR) – a more intensive offer of flexible and personalised adviser based support for a period of six months. ESA claimants completing the Work Programme receive the Jobcentre Plus Offer tailored to the specialist needs of ESA claimants including specialist disability support.
What about Community Action Programme (CAP)? A trailblazer we ran last year included a third option - externally provided ‘Community Action Programme’ and early evaluation showed that CAP had a positive impact on benefit receipt and softer outcomes like motivation and work-related ambition. The learning from CAP in the trailblazer is still to be fully evaluated and will inform future policy development. Flexible Support Fund Funding which can be used to design, influence and deliver services to help move customers off benefits and into employment. Funding which gives scope to support local partnership working to improve employment outcomes or prospects of future employment, for communities and individuals facing the most complex and intractable challenges to taking up work. Funding which can achieve greater and better value for money (when appropriate) by aligning or pooling money with other funding from local partners to achieve common purposes which have identifiable employment gains.

Providing an assisted phone service for claimants who present in the Jobcentre and are unable to access DWP services without our help.
