  1. Seeking Happiness? How Self-Love Can Help You Find It! The term “self-love” is thrown around quite a bit today, often without a real examination of what it really means. Experts are more often telling people that they need to love themselves more to make it easier for others to love and appreciate them. Some say that the only way to love another person is to love yourself first. It is true; the importance of self-love to various aspects of an individual’s life is becoming more familiar and more readily accepted. Understanding what it is and how to achieve it can also be the answer to those who are seeking happiness and are unsure how to find it. Well-known and respected counselor, life coach, and author, Dr. Robert Puff, explains that for people who are seeking happiness, “Kindness is a great benefit for self-love and that is important for finding happiness in daily life.” Self-love does not come from actions that make you feel good or gratified, but in those actions that support your spiritual, physical, or psychological growth. To accomplish a greater feeling of self-love, consider the following: Be Self-Aware – Know what matters most to you and what actions will support these factors. It isn’t about what others want for you or expect from you; it is what you want and expect from yourself. Take Care of Yourself – A healthy, satisfied you is a more loveable you. Eat healthy foods, spend time in other people’s company, get adequate exercise and sleep and you will begin to feel more self-love and a greater sense of happiness. Make Good Decisions – You want to show kindness to others, but not at a price to your well-being. Be accepting of those who are different than you but not those who want something else for you that will cause you pain. Allow Yourself to Be Human –Don’t dwell on mistakes you made in the past. Forgive yourself and get over the guilt. Focus on who you are today and all the reasons that you love yourself in the present.

  2. Act Deliberately – Make the decision to act in a certain way and put yourself into the situations that will facilitate your new approach to life. You can achieve happiness through the kind actions that you make towards others. Put yourself in as many places as possible to facilitate those actions. Know your intentions and set the stage for accomplishing them. Learn to Say “No” –Other people aren’t going to always have your best interests at heart. They may expect more of you physically, spiritually, or emotionally than you are prepared to give. Learn to say no when saying yes could be bad for you and take more of your energy than you have to offer. Always go back to the idea that you must protect yourself. These are some of the ways that people who are seeking happiness can increase self-love and enjoy the benefits of giving to others. Self-love is imperative to living well and living a happy life.
