National Libray of Spain - Information • Custody about 30 million publications • Books, brochures, leaflets, magazines, newspapers, old prints, incunabula, manuscripts, drawings, engravings, photographs, exlibris, ephemera, posters, maps and plans, postcards, sheet music, sound and audiovisual records, microforms, electronic publications

National Library of Spain- Functions • Main functions, included in its statute 1638/2009 • of October 30: • Collect, catalog and preserve bibliographic funds produced in any Spanish language or other language • Encourage research by studying, borrowing and reproducing its bibliographic background • Disseminate information about Spanish • bibliographic production • Guide and inform about its collection and those of other libraries • Facilitate in-room consultation of their funds • Projects of • digitization

  5. National Library of Spain - Projects of digitization • Digitization is a key process in BNE • It fulfills two of its main tasks: • the preservation • and the dissemination • of bibliographic heritage • In 1999 the digitization of 104 Spanish press titles in progress began

National Library of Spain - Projects of digitization • Period 1999 – 2007 • Digitization of 50,000,000 pages of historical and current press • Period 2008 – 2013: • Agreement with Telefónica • Digitalization of 25,000,000 pages of all types of documents • Digitization • have a digital copy, in case the printed original is lost or deteriorated
