Safety Review Committee (SRC) • Reports to the Lab Director. • Makes recommendations on ES&H policy and guidelines. • Conducts reviews of special safety problems and provides recommendations for solutions. • Conducts the institutional level self-assessment known as Management Environment, Safety & Health (MESH) reviews. • Appoints expert sub-committees to address specific health and safety matters. • Seeks consultation from the Regulatory Safety Committee Chairs.
MESH Reviews • Conducted for divisions on a triennial basis • Ensures management systems consistent with Integrated Safety Management (ISM) are in place in all Laboratory Divisions and that these systems are leading to effective implementation of the Laboratory's ES&H program. • Performed by SRC members.
SRC Sub Committees • Electrical Safety • Emergency Preparedness • Laser Safety • Mechanical Safety • Safety Coordinators • Traffic Safety
EH&S Liaisons • Reports to the EH&S Director • Serves as prime EH&S technical point of contact to assigned divisions • Conducts the authorization based portion of institutional self-assessment known as Integrated Functional Appraisal (IFA) reviews
Integrated Functional Appraisal • Conducted for divisions on a triennial basis. • Validates formal authorization requirements. • Activity Hazard Documents • Biological Use Authorizations • Radiological Work Authorizations • Performed by Division Liaisons and supported with EH&S subject matter experts.
Safety Coordinators • Reports to each Division Director. • Serves as point of contact within their division for all matters concerning the implementation and interpretation of the Lab’s ES&H policies • Conducts the working level portion of institutional self-assessment known as Division Self Assessment (DSA) reviews.
Self Assessment • Conducted annually • Validates that ISM principles are implemented at the working level • Performed by the Division Safety Coordinator and supported with EH&S subject matter experts
Regulatory Committees • Institutional Biosafety Committee • Radiation Safety Committee • Institutional Review Board • Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects • Animal Welfare and Research Committee • Radioactive Drug Research Committee
