Avalon x Cadenza DH population was grown in the field 2004-2005 : Grown as Hege 80 drilled plots (1m x 5m) and Hege 90 drilled plots (1m2) Hege 80 plots : Scored by Liz Sayers (JIC) Traits scored on 3 replications of 204 lines plus parents in the field were :- ear emergence height yield lodging erectness 10 specimen tillers were also taken per plot before harvest : Traits being scored are:- Total weight of tiller biomass Number of spikelets Weight of seed 100 grain weight

Avalon x Cadenza - scored by Darren Lovell (RRes) on first 110 DH lines + parental lines Field based assessments at LARS 2002 and 2003 Phylochron Leaf emergence and growth stage development Canopy Winter habit (prostrate, semi-erect, erect) Tiller numbers (winter only) Stem extension and canopy expansion / growth rates Inter-leaf distances Leaf size (Length x Width and Area) Leaf posture Node heights and Internode Distance Peduncle length Peduncle extrusion...(height between flag leaf ligule and base of ear) Length of ear From these data values for date of Flag leaf emergence and interleaf distances/ leaf overlaps throughout the season can be compared for all lines at given growth/ development stages.
