  2. Aryan • (in Nazi doctrine) a non-Jewish Caucasian, esp. of Nordic stock. • Ethnology. a member or descendant of the prehistoric people who spoke Indo-European

  3. Gestapo • the German state secret police during the Nazi regime, organized in 1933 and notorious for its brutal methods and operations

  4. Recuperating • to recover from sickness or exhaustion; regain health or strength

  5. Zionism • a worldwide Jewish movement that resulted in the establishment and development of the state of Israel. •  A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel • The belief that Jews should have their own nation; Jewish nationalism. Zionism gained much support among Jews and others in the early twentieth century, and the hoped-for nation was established in the late 1940s in Palestine, as the state of Israel. Zionism is opposed by most Arabs. (SeeArab-Israeli conflict.)

  6. Anthropomorphism • The attributing of human characteristics and purposes to inanimate objects, animals, plants, or other natural phenomena, or to God. To describe a rushing river as “angry” is to anthropomorphize it.
