Curriculum Maps SIS Steps Teachers go to SIS and review the requirements, the mini-unit, and then go to the first Unit/Collection SIS HAS A LINEAR LAYOUT, BUT THE PLANNING FOR INSTRUCTION IS NOT LINEAR… Teachers read the Curriculum Maps and know the scope and sequence of the 6 Unit year for the grade they teach. SIS Units are Based on the Curriculum Maps

16. 1. Review the writing assessment. In this case it is write an Informative Essay – Teachers ask themselves, what do I have to teach in order for students to be able to master this assessment? • 2. Read the 2 anchor texts and note the skills and ideas taught. Teachers ask themselves if they understand the essential question/enduring understanding? 18. 3. Teacher’s update each unit with their additions/subtractions of readings and other activities for the duration of the unit in the section called Content/Academic Vocabulary. If teacher’s have older books they may match readings to enduring understandings and essential questions. But this is no longer necessary. a. Indicate what readings they will use b. Add academic vocabulary c. Indicate which activities/strategies will be used and attach d. Add additional assessments they will be using e. Novels – If teaching a novel as part of one of the 6 units they must list it under the resource section and attach the unit/lesson plans they are using to teach it. f. 21. Assessment PBA Question: What does this unit need for students to be able to complete this task effectively? Answer: Students must be able to understand the structure of arguments (ethos, logos, pathos) and then explain and provide information in an essay demonstrating this understanding.
