  2. Thermo • The branch of physics that deals with the relations between heat and other forms of energy.

  3. Laws of Thermodynamics • There are 3 laws of thermodynamics: • The 1stlaw is the application of the conservation of energy. • The 2ndlaw is a general principle upon the direction of heat transfer. • The 3rd law entropy of a substance approaches zero.

  4. First Law • Conservation of energy: the fundamental principle of physics that total energy of an isolated system is constant despite internal changes.

  5. Second Law • A general principle which places constraints upon the direction of heat transfer and the attainable efficiencies of heat engines.

  6. Third Law • It states that the entropy of a substance approaches zero as its temperature approaches absolute zero.

  7. Thermo Usefulness • We put ice cubes in a glass of hot tea so that the heat flows from the tea to the ice cubes and cools the tea down.
