2008 Update #1: JANSSEN VOLUNTEERS FOR SAVE THE CHILDREN’S FEEDING & HANDWASHING PROGRAM Early Thursday morning of June 26, a group of 14 Janssen volunteers led by GM Jane Villablanca headed for Sun Valley Elementary School to take part in the handwashing and feeding program for schoolchildren. In partnership with Save the Children, these volunteers taught and demonstrated handwashing to around 170 schoolchildren and fed 50 undernourished ones during their recess period. This program supports J&J ‘s program on Pampalusog Bata in selected schools in Parañaque.
2008 Update #2: ASIA PACIFIC QA SITE HEADS REACH OUT TO CHILDRENTaking time off from their Regional QA Meeting last July 16-18, the participants headed off to Sun Valley Elementary School to take part in the handwashing and feeding programs for schoolchildren. In partnership with Save the Children, these volunteers taught and demonstrated handwashing to around 300 Grade 2 pupils and fed 50 undernourished ones during their recess period. This program supports J&J ‘s program on Pampalusog Bata in selected schools in Parañaque.
2008 Update #3: EMPLOYEES PLANT TREES FOR A HEALTHY FUTUREWith the ever-growing concern for the environment, employee-volunteers hiked to the La Mesa Watershed and planted 300 seedlings as their commitment to leave a legacy of clear air and water to the Filipino children. The volunteers were blessed with a bright sunny Saturday morning last July 19, an enlightening environmental awareness lecture from the project manager of the La Mesa Watershed Project and a treeplanting demo by the foresters. This program is aligned with J&J ‘s Health & Safety efforts to sustain a a healthy population and a healthy planet.
2008 Update #4: JJMP LIFESCAN PHILS TEAM VOLUNTEERS FOR CHILDRENJJMP LifeScan team, led by Bing Joson, Group Franchise Director, partners with Save the Children for its first volunteerism project in Sun Valley Elementary School last August 7. The team took part in the handwashing program for schoolchildren where they taught and demonstrated handwashing to around 200 Grade 2 pupils and assisted in the feeding program for 50 undernourished schoolchildren. This program is in support of the “Pampalusog Bata Project” between J&J and Save the Children.
2008 Update #5: J&J SUPPORTS GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAYIn collaboration with the JPE Team, J&J supported Global Handwashing Day last Oct 15 with a donation of 20,000 pcs of soap and awareness stickers to 100 schools in four divisions, namely, Caloocan, Las Pinas, Parañaque and Taguig, benefitting 300,000 public school children. Volunteers from Janssen, JJMP and JJPI conducted mini-lectures and handwashing demo after ceremonial turnover of soap donation. The first-ever Global Handwashing Day was celebrated in 20 countries in 5 continents to create a culture of handwashing with soap because CLEAN HANDS SAVE LIVES.
2008 Update #6: OPERATION SMILE WELCOMES J&J VOLUNTEERSFifty(50) cross-sectoral employees/consultants from JJMP, Janssen and JJPI trooped to Ospital ng Makati last Nov 4, 5, and 10 to volunteer their time and talent to Operation Smile mission of giving free operation to indigent patients with cleft lip and palate. They assisted in guiding patient traffic, registering and acquiring info from patients , assisting in patient imaging technology, assisting the doctors and patients in pre-screening tasks, putting up a play area for kids, interacting with them with donated toys and books and interviewing patients to fill up the Phil. Cleft Registry forms to help build a database for future reference.
2008 Update #7: J&J VOLUNTEERS JOIN UNICEF WALKATHONIn the early Sunday morning of Nov 23, J&J employees and dependents join thousands of marathoners and walkers from all sectors of society at the McKinley Hill to be one with UNICEF in raising funds for their children’s programs in the Philippines. J&J employees joined the 10K and 5K marathon and participated also in the 2K walkathon with their families.
2008 Update #8: J&J VOLUNTEERS BECAME TEACHERS FOR A DAYMathinik Primary on Money, Science Intermediate on Plant Kingdom, Hekasi’s Pamana on Anyong Lupa were subjects taught by J&J volunteers to Grade 3 and Grade 6 pupils of Tambo Elementary School in Parañaque last November 28. The pupils did not only have an enriching learning activity but also had great fun interacting with the volunteers.
2008 Update #9: J&J & WV BRING HYGIENE EDUCATION TO PUBLIC SCHOOLCHILDRENApproximately 400 pupils of San Agustin Elementary School in Parañaque benefited from the combined effort of J&J volunteers led by R&D/QA and joined by volunteers from JJMP and JJPI’s Customer Development in teaching the 10 Steps of Basic Hygiene last Nov 28. Different booths were set up using creative visual aids on oral care, handwashing, wellness, good grooming, facial washing, elimination of body odor and parasites.
