  1. Net sequestration of biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) 0 0 0 0 0 -100 -200 -300 -400 kg CO2/tonne Duprint -500 -600 -700 -800 -900 -1000 Climate Declaration Product: 1 tonne of coated folding boxboard, Duprint, 270 g/m2 The climate declaration describes the emissions of green-houses gases, expressed as CO2-equivalents. It is based on verified life-cycle data following the concept of Environmental Product Declarations, EPD, as outlined in ISO 14025. The other data are available from Cascades Djupafors on request. Product description The coated folding boxboard is used by our customers for carton packaging of food and other products. This product contains: - 60% groundwood pulp (produced at site ) - 30% chemical pulp (imported from other Swedish mills) - 10% chemicals The groundwood board is produced with a technology, which uses around 30% less energy than thermo-mechanical production technology. Cascades Djupafors was the first board producer to be certified by both FSC and PEFC, which guarantees that all wood fibres used comes from well-managed forests. The board has an ISEGA certificate (approved for contact with food) and is tested for taint and odour according to the Robinson test. Company description Cascades Djupafors AB is situated in Ronneby, Sweden. The owner Cascades is a Canada-based company with deep environmental commitment. Cascades Djupafors is certified according to ISO 9001, 14001 and PFE (Program for Energy efficiency, a commitment to reduce our energy consumption) All electricity at the site is hydro power produced by Vattenfall. Upstream: Forestry, production of fertilisers, production of energy wares, production of chemicals, auxiliary products and other raw materials, production of transport packaging Core: Transportation of all materials (including wood) to the core processes, production of pulp, production of paper and paperboard, cutting and packing of the products and treatment of waste generated from the production processes. Downstream: Distribution of the product and waste management of transport packaging Product use and waste treatment The final board product should be recycled or incinerated with energy recovery after use. It should not be put to landfill. Other environmental information In Sweden, the forest growth rates are higher than the harvest rates, and the net removal of CO2 from the atmosphere is here allocated to the harvested timber. The high growth rates are a result of an efficient and sustainable forest management. The uptake of biogenic CO2 at growth is presented below. It should be noticed that the system boundary setting used for calculation of the net sequestration (removal) of biogenic carbon dioxide represent forest management and therefore differ from the product related boundary settings used elsewhere in the EPD.
