GBE FACTORY RES in Industry Bratislava, 5.12.2012
What is a GBE Factory Objectives Answering the W What? GBE Factory Model Where? In selected industrial-commercial areas Who? Businesses or Municipalities When? In the period as of July 2011 Why? To promote self-sufficiency and energy security of companies • It stands for an industrial or commercial building equipped with single or combined renewable energy sources • It lays grounds of organizations and/or companies to take up the model of the GBE FACTORY as a business model for the enhance of the GBE FACTORY. • Identifying priority sectors of intervention, such as industrial and commercial ones requiring high volumes of heating and cooling powers for the functioning of their businesses.
Value-Added • Bring together, concept and conceive good practices about the models possible of using RES in industry • Knowledge sharing and inter-country partners’ agreements for coordination actions and national and/or regional strategies • Raising awareness of SME industrial and commercial warehouses on benefits of use of tailored models of combined RES investments (SOLAR PV-THERMAL, WVOIL-CHP-CCHP, PPOIL-CHPCCHP, GEOTHERMAL-PV, PV-THERMAL & MINI EOLIC, etc.).
Specific Objectives • raise awareness among key stakeholders not only in participating countries on the benefits of dedicating small-medium sized industrial and commercial warehouses or part of them to combined RES investments • motivate their commitment in creating a favourable framework (from a legal and administrative point of view) for a RES investments in the involved Countries (Italy, Austria, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Germany) and in widest range of EU countries through networks of involved organizations • boost the attractiveness of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) investments by promoting strong and effective business models.
Key Messages • GBE FACTORY allows maximization of efficiency and effectiveness of the investment in RES, thanks to the possibility of better combining RES technologies and integrating them in a sole location • GBE FACTORY helps to build self-sufficient building with almost zero emissions • GBE FACTORY allows economies of scale in energy production and a more participated involvement of local entrepreneurs • Investors will have a possibility to explore examined and tested most advanced business models in order to evaluate better the effectiveness of investment
The forms of interventions • The implementation of combined RES plants in existing single industrial or commercial warehouses, or the ex novo creation and/or re-qualification of existing industrial and commercial warehouses. • The development of prototypes that will match the more attractive business models and more advanced RES-use solutions equipped with the newest technologies. DEMO GBE FACTORIES for the EU market. • Standardization of technical and procedural approaches as well as taking into consideration specific needs of regional contexts. • A major goal is to involve at least 50 EU industrial and/or commercial sites that are able to provide market demonstrative solutions for the purposes of boosting investments related.

EU Policies • “Climate Energy Measures 20-20-20”. These measures are designed to: • - reduce by 20& the emissions of CO • - increase by 20% the energy saving; • - enhance by 20% the consumption of energy by RES. • In addition the document “EUROPE 2020: A strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth” • bring a saving of about 60 billion euros for the gas and petrol imports by 2020, • produce an increase of 0.6-0.8% of EU GDP, • achieve around 20% of RES consumption, • create 600,000 new jobs that would become one million by adding the 20% efficiency target.
Reduce CO2 • The Strategy 20-20-20 is the milestone for further optimization of the electric power consumption and to reduction of CO2 emissions. • The White Book including a call for 12% increase by of the market share of RES by 2010. • “Greening the economy” means • to encourage and mainstream the practices of efficient use of energies, • To develope technological applications based on renewable energy sources • To make available a plethora of technologies and methods for promotion of viable energy sources and reduce emissions of CO2. However, market conditions and legal environments in EU MS are not in any case favourable for the use of all potentials of RES.
RES Policies in Slovakia • The National Slovak Concept of Energy defines the overall national indicative energy savings target for the period 2008-2016 at 9% of the average final energy consumption from the years 2001-2005, t. j. 37 215 TJ. • Gradually reducing the energy intensity of the national economy - as evidenced for the by the 2002-2008 an energy consumption decrease is expected by nearly 32%, which represents the greatest reduction in energy performance among all OECD countries and the EU in this period. • It is clear that compared to the period 2001-2005, on the basis of the calculated savings goal, achieved SR significant energy savings. • Compared with the average energy intensity - 2001-2005 (12.158 TJ / million EUR), Slovakia recorded in 2008, a significant decline in energy intensity up to 31.5% in 2009 even by 33.2%. • Comparing the energy consumption in 2007 decreased in 2008 by 3.4% in 2009 to 5.7% (Fig. no. 2). • Compared with the average values in 2001-2005 in all sectors it is reported a considerable amount of energy savings up to 3.4% (in 2008), respectively 10.2% (in 2009).
Financial Incentives • Financing environmental-friendly technology by the Structural Funds, OP Industry and Services (first measure support for the development of new and existing enterprises and services). • Achieving savings and gains to increase the efficiency of the manufacturing process, modernization of production buildings, reconstruction of boiler, waste heat recovery, as well as the introduction of combined electricity and heat production • Energy audits in enterprises - a basis for determining potential energy savings are considered an important tool to identify potential savings in business and should be a basis for implementing energy conservation measures. • Law on Energy efficiency sets the obligation, regularly assessed (every 5ys) energy demands in industry and agriculture. • FEE, as a tool to support voluntary energy audits has not been established.
