  4. Absent Parents • You see the Pathfinder but not the parents • Trouble collecting money • Late to pick up Pathfinder • No consent form • You have to run to the parking lot after a meeting to speak with them

  5. Helicopter Parents • Tend to hover • Want to come on campouts but they are not staff • Show up at Pathfinder parties and eat food • Tend to smother their kids (kids want to get away from them!)

  6. Pushy Parents • Try to get special favors or advantages for their kids • Want their kids to be in with an older age group • Want their 11 or 12 year old to go on teen events • Want their kids to be in a specific car/tent/room

  8. Consistent Boundaries • Maintain deadlines • Don’t bend age restrictions • Leave on time even if it means leaving someone behind • No consent form? No go!

  9. Communication • “I Can Understand Why You Feel This Way” • “In Fact, Others Have Felt The Same Way” • “Here’s What We’ve Discovered” • Use many forms of communication

  10. Teaming with Parents • For some reason, all kids have parents • Parents sometimes need to be trained, but once trained can be a wonderful asset • Most staff will be parents
