IELTS listening test By Mark
Introduction • The test last about 30 minutes • There are 4 sections • Each section gets more difficult • The tests could have one or two people talking • You have to answer the questions as you are listening.
Guidance • Similar to skimming and scanning in the reading test: Listen for key names, dates and numbers and write them down. • You have time at the end of the test to go over you answers. • There are forty questions for you to answer, that’s a lot!
As you listen • Even a fluent speaker would have difficulty keeping up with the IELTS listening test. • You must try and scan for key words • If you miss questions you could lose points in a hurry. • You’re bound to get lost in the text as you write answers to things you hear • If that happens write down every key word you hear: names, dates, technical words etc. Fill it in later. • You’ll have time at the end of the test to review your answers • A note of caution, you only get to listen to the tape one time!
Conclusion • We have looked at: • The listening test • It lasts about 30 minutes, including time to go over you answers. • There are forty questions • Scan for key words, themes, names and numbers.
