Welcome to 6th Grade Math We are Going to Have an Amazing Year of Learning!
About Me • 21st year teaching (all in AISD) • Houston native • Been in Austin since 1989 • Love teaching math and the process of problem solving • Have one daughter in 8th grade • Love reading for pleasure, watching and playing sports • Texans, Rockets and Astros are my favorite teams • Goal: To work on pacing lessons within the 46 minute window • To continue to update my website
Policies/Procedures • See handbook for school wide grading procedures • Advanced: 60% Assessments, 30 % Daily/Classroom Work, 10% Homework • Pre- AP & Regular: 50% Assessments, 40% Daily/Classroom Work, 10% Homework • What to do if student is absent? Pick up missed work from labeled basket on the shelf OR print the missed work from my website. • Where do I turn in work to be collected? In the trays labeled by class period. • When and Where can I correct an assignment or test to improve my grade? During 6th period EXCEL. Get a stamp from me to come receive tutorial, or make test corrections for partial credit. • Tutorials/Corrections for math are on Wednesdays, or Thursdays

Unit 4: Ratios/Rates/Percents (27 days) • Essential Questions: • What are ratios? • When & why do I use proportional comparisons? • Unit5: Expressions/Equations/Inequalities (23 days) • Essential Questions: • How do I solve problems using algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities?
Unit 6: Multiple Representations (15 days) • Essential Questions: • How do I use tables, graphs and equations to represent the data? • Unit 7: Triangle properties, Area and Volume (18 days) • Essential Questions: • How do I find area od 2D geometric figures? • How do I find volume of 3D geometric figures?
Unit 8: Personal Financial Literacy/STAAR REVIEW (30 days) • Essential Questions: • How do I know the difference between debit and credit? • How do I know when I’m earning interest or paying interest • How do I use a ledger to keep my balance? • We should have about 2 weeks of STAAR review right before the test!
