Main characters Sanjaya: narrator Sri Krishna: brother-in-law to Arjuna, god in disguise Arjuna: hero of warrior caste
Basic plot • Arjuna is presenting an argument with Sri Krishna because he fears fighting against his family and friends. • Krishna explains to Arjuna that as a warrior it is his duty to fight. • Krishna tells Arjuna that the eternal soul has no reason for grief over the temporary body. • Krishna then explains that even if Arjuna was to die in war, he would still attain heaven because he has done his rightful duty.
Moral • The ultimate goal of enlightenment is achieved by Wise Action. • Wise Action is when you do your duty only, without personal attachment. • One can act without personal attachment by pleasuring God. This frees a person from impurity and sin.
A true hero acts without CONCERN for the effects on his own life.
