  2. Structure • Membrane enclosed sac filled with water, nutrients, waste • Food Vacuole (animal cells)- formed through phagocytosis • Large Central Vacuole (formed through combining of smaller vesicles)

  3. Function of Large Central Vacuole • Storage- Mostly Water • Maintains Pressure against cell wall- affects size of cell • Vacuole takes up 30%-50% of plant cells volume • When Large Central Vacuole filled with water, structure plants don’t “droop”

  4. Function of Food Vacuole • Play Role in Phagocytosis (when food is digested by lysosomes, food vacuoles store energy • A vesicle is formed from the lysosomes, makes contact with the cell membrane, and forms the vacuole
