Pitch When someone loses their vision, they often feel uncomfortable in normal situations—like eating out with family and friends. The Guild offers practical solutions, such as our Dining with Confidence class. We teach simple techniques to allow our members to eat with dignity and enjoy one of the simple pleasures of life.

Pitch We focus on providing practical solutions to everyday problems. If someone just wants a talking watch, we provide them with one. If they just want to knit again, we teach them. But we always use the opportunity to tell them about what else is available—encouraging them to expand their thinking about what is very possible with the right training.

Pitch The Chicago Lighthouse is the most well known agency serving people with vision loss in Chicago. Because it is so large, it offers a systematic, structured approach. The Guild’s smaller size gives us flexibility. We are small enough to provide individual attention, yet large enough to provide the resources and training our members need.

Donna’s Story Thanks to recent grants, we are now able to offer Orientation & Mobility training to members. This service, that is so essential for our members to safely walk independently to work or anywhere else, is frustratingly difficult to get in Illinois. Donna had been on the waiting list for state services for months with no end in sight. Once we receiving funding, she became one of our first students. Now, Donna can use public transportation, cross busy streets, use escalators and stairs and even navigate a busy food court. She says the training has “absolutely transformed her life.”
