Introduction To Why? • E-mail is becoming the standard medium for communication throughout the world because of it’s • speed • versatility.
Introduction To How ? • Students and Staff will learn how to • Access MPS email account using MPS computers • Send and receive email • Navigate through the Exchange global directory to find people in the district.
Agenda • NETiquette • Similarities and Differences with snail mail • What others can see, possible consequences • Navigating through the “Inbox” • Sending and Receiving Mail • Using the Global Directory
Internet NETiquette Review • Do not use the school’s internet to go to inappropriate sites.(i.e. Gambling, “nasty” sites, “Win a Free X-Box”, etc.) • Adhere to behavioral standards online as you would in real life.
Email NETiquette • DO NOT TYPE IN ALL CAPITALS • Be careful what you say. • Avoid “Me too.” Messages • Do not send large attachments.
Similarities To: “Snail Mail” • Similarities with “Snail mail.” • Address needs to be absolutely correct. • Content is meaningful. • Delivered to specific person.
Differences From: “Snail Mail” • The Email Difference: • Instantaneous • No Envelopes, But treat like a Postcard. • Can be read, stored, copied and sent anywhere very quickly.

Logging into YOUR email. • Shortcuts to email in school. • 1. Click on Internet Explorer Application • 2. Click on the “MPS Apps” Link to get yourself to this page. 2. 1. Links
Logging into YOUR email. Next, click on the Outlook Web Access “A”
Logging into YOUR email. You will then be taken to this site. Type in your username and password. For Staff: It is the same username as with Eudora and internet. For Students: It is your login, sLunch#, the password is your birthday.
Welcome! Successful? You should see this. Inbox – New Messages are in Bold Messages read already will have regular text. Preview of the Highlighted Message. Double Click the highlighted message to get a Full Screen.

Creating Something New • New Message • From your inbox, click New

4 Steps To Sending an Email 1. Make sure you have a correct address in the To: 2. Put in a Subject 3. Write your text you wish to send. 4. Click the Send button.
Global Directory Shortcut • There are a number of ways to access the Global Address List. The quickest would be: • 1.Click on the Address Book from the Toolbars • 2. Click on the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: Buttons when creating a message. • Both will bring you to Global Address List.
Using Global Address List To Find A Person: • Put information or at least partial information, # or letter into the appropriate field. • Click the Find Button. The more information you can supply, the more accurate the search will be.
Finishing The Global Address List After Before After Clicking, “Find”, the “Add Recipient Buttons” will not be “Active”. After selecting the person you are looking for, the buttons will become “Active”. Click your choice only once and close or select other names to add to message.
Message Display When you click any of the Activated Buttons, you will notice the person’s full name go into it’s proper place in the new message display. FYI: When finished click the Close button to return to message.
One More Quick Shortcut • After writing a message, put in what you think is the person’s name, and hit send. A “Check Names” Box will appear. Select the correct name in which to send the email and click OK. FYI: Your email will be sent right after clicking OK.
Netiquette • Proper Online Behavior • Sending Appropriate E-mails • Make sure to read over emails before sending to make sure it sounds what you are trying to say.
Send an Email • Check, Send, and Reply to OWA Email • Look in your Inbox to see new messages • Log In, Start a New Message, and Find a Friend’s at the schools email, or a friend at another school, and send them a short message
