THE PARADOX • States with easy exams, like Wisconsin and Mississippi, DO NOT miss targets. • States with stringent exams, like Hawaii, Massachusetts and New Mexico have, 60 to 70 percent of schools miss goals. • South Carolina, which has what may be the nation’s most rigorous tests, 83 percent of schools missed targets.
Restructuring: Corrective Action Planning The intent of ‘restructuring’ is to alter school governance and/or structures to ensure that student learning and performance results are sufficiently improved • Reconstitute the school • Replace all or most of the school staff • Contract with an entity • Private management company • Turn the operation of the school over to the State • If the State agrees • Re-open as a charter school • Restructuring the school's governance • An arrangement that makes fundamental reforms to improve student academic achievement The statute provides the following options for restructuring: NOTE: Corrective Action Plans for Alden and DMS will be presented to SC in January. These Plans will address the AYP issue related to the Special Education subgroup.

RESULTS SUMMARY According to NCLB, Duxbury remains a high performing district. • ALDEN Positive Increase of students in the P+ categories in all three grades • DMS 100% passing rate in grade 6 with positive increase in p+ categories • DHS 100% passing rate in biology • DISTRICT performance rating remains very high & improvement rating is on target
