  2. Noun • A noun names a person, animal, place, thing or idea. Example: The silly puppy took my shoe!

  3. Verb • A verb shows action or links the main parts of a sentence. Example: The strange kitten is playful. She climbs into the toy box.

  4. Adverb • An adverb tells how, when, where, or how much. It also describes adjectives. Example: Yesterday my pet duck Allie proudly showed me her ducklings swimming.

  5. Adjective • An adjective describes something, it tells what kind or how many. Example: I have a good dog, a noisy cricket, and two colorful lovebirds.

  6. Preposition • A preposition shows a relationship between a noun or pronoun giving location or time. Example: A shy fish hides behind a rock. The little fish swam in a school.

  7. Conjunction • A conjunction connects words or groups of words. Example: After school Todd and I will ride to the pond or the meadow.

  8. Interjection • An interjection expressed a strong feeling. Example: Oh, what a cute little puppy.

  9. Pronoun • A pronoun takes the place of a noun or noun phrase. Example: Do you like rabbits? We have five rabbits.
