  4. Introduction Objectives MA.GEO.05.07 Classify & describe properties of quadrilaterals. This PowerPoint presentation will introduce you to the different types of Quadrilaterals (four sided polygons). Are you ready to begin, if so, say “yes”.

  5. 3 types of Quadralaterals Quadrilaterals are divided up into three main categories Parallelograms Trapezoids Trapeziums Parallelograms are quadrilaterals that have the following characteristics 1. Opposite sides are parallel & congruent 2. Opposite angles are congruent 3. Consecutive angles are supplemental 4. Diagonals bisect each other Trapezoids are quadrilaterals that have the following characteristics 1. One set of parallel sides which are called “bases” 2. The non-parallel sides are called “legs” Trapeziums are quadrilaterals that have the following characteristic 1. No sides are parallel

  6. Parallelograms& Rectangles & Rhombuses & Squares Parallelograms can further be divided into subgroups called Rectangles Rhombuses A rectangle has all the characteristics of a parallelogram plus 1. all angles are 90 degrees 2. diagonals are congruent A rhombus has all the characteristics of a parallelogram plus 1. all sides are congruent 2. diagonals bisect angles & are perpendicular Squares A square has all the characteristics of a rectangle & a rhombus

  7. Trapezoids & Isosceles Trapezoids Trapezoids can be divided up into a subgroup called Isosceles Trapezoids An isosceles trapezoid has all the characteristics of a trapezoid plus 1. legs (non-parallel sides) are congruent 2. diagonals are congruent

  8. Trapeziums& Deltoids & Kites Trapeziums can be divided into subgroups called Deltoids Kites Deltoids have the following characteristics 1) adjacent sides are congruent 2) are concave Kites have the following characteristics 1) adjacent sides are congruent 2) are convex 3) diagonals are perpendicular

  9. Quick Overview Quadrilaterals Classification of Quadrilaterals Parallelograms Trapezoids Trapeziums Isosceles Trapezoids Rectangle Rhombus Deltoids Kites Squares
