Welcome Back FAA Pilot Proficiency Program (WINGS)
Topic #2 WINGS What is WINGS? • A formal, recurrent training program for pilots • Continuing knowledge and flight training • Administered online
Topic #2 WINGS If you participated in the old WINGS program, this is different No longer an AWARD program – based on proficiency No longer required 3 hours of flight – based on proficiency Not the same program for every pilot – based on the pilot’s profile. Not an award
Topic #2 WINGS New WINGS is 3 phases - rather than the old 20 phases Earn all 3 phases each year - rather than the old 1 phase each year Encourages ongoing training, a little each month - rather than the old get it done in one day WINGS activities are credited and shown to help pilots stay motivated to doing a little training each month.
Topic #2 WINGS Why I like the New WINGS Program • Each pilot is in control • Adaptable to each pilot’s current level of flying • Can be changed as new ratings are added • Automatically keeps track of accomplishments Why I Like the New Wings Program By Rich Martindell, FAAST Lead Rep
Topic #2 WINGS How it works: • Register at www.faasafety.gov • Set up a WINGS profile • View the MY WINGS page • Knowledge areas listed • Flight tasks listed • As tasks are completed, its recorded automatically
Topic #2 WINGS 3 levels of WINGS achievement • Basic • Advanced • Master
Topic #2 WINGS Completion of each Wings Phase, requires that you; • Register on FAASaftey.gov • Hold a U.S. Pilot Certificate (student is OK) • Hold a valid Medical Certificate (if required) • Complete the Required and Elective Elements for Knowledge andFlight
Topic #2 WINGS Why should pilots participate? Increase their operational level of aviation safety. Understand and establish personal minimums. Maintain skills and knowledge needed for the type of flying they most frequently do. Enjoy the satisfaction and status of Program completion. One way to satisfy the 14 CFR Part 61.56 Flight Review requirement.
Topic #2 WINGS The date your Flight Review requirement was met is tracked and updated at the completion of the Basic Phase.
Topic #2 WINGS An aviation safety culture can only be accomplished with each pilot maintaining skills, knowledge, and judgment. A pilot who participates in and completes a phase of the Wings Pilot Proficiency Program has made a commitment to aviation safety.
Topic #2 WINGS When a WINGS participant calls
