  2. Who’s Who? • The learners ST1, ST2, ST3 NB e-mail addresses • The teachers – Glos GP Education Team Plan, organise, support, facilitate • Administrators (At Sanford Education Centre) • The GP School of the Severn Deanery

What’s is Gloucestershire VTS all about? • A 3 year programme (at Glos and Chelt) • ST 1,2 and 3s all together • Regular release to GP led education • National curriculum • Emphasis of self-directed learning • Support for your assessment (nMRCGP) and certification of completion of training You are in the driving seat!

  7. How are you going to learn? • In the work place - experience • From each other (VTS discussions – both informal and in small groups) • Topic orientated sessions with GP focus • Self-directed (books, journals, e-learning) • Broader learning about humanity ………..more of this later……

  8. What will a typical Wendesday look like? • Get here 1400 – socialise, sign in • Prompt start 1415 • ST topic presentations • Small group work (mixed year groups) • Tea time • Large room session (outside resource) • Evaluation and reflection on learning • Prompt end at 1700 • Some Wednesday mornings and full days

  9. What we expect of you • Good time keeping • Good attendance • 100% (except holidays) when in GP posts • Minimum of 21 half-days per year when in hospital posts • Bleep-free learning • Active participation • Sessions in your training practices

  10. Attendance – why a register? • Accountability • A record of your attendance • Monitoring the hospital Department’s release • Reasons for non-attendance (please telephone or e-mail Hilary if you are not attending a session) • Sign every time • Stay for the whole session

Register with RCGP and for e-portfolio • Initial £ 131 as an ST1, £213 as ST2, £295 as ST3 Annual Sub £197 • Associate in Training – get the BJGP journal (bundles certification, assessment and membership service you require) • ST1 package = e-portfolio, 10% off AKT and CSA, cert services for CCT (Certificate of completion of training, Sub to New Journal for GP Trainees, Sub to BJGP) • Non-AIT package for CCT = £525 http://www.rcgp.org.uk/PDF/AiT%20Leaflet.pdf

What is this e-portfolio thing? • Web-based • Records your training • Documents evidence of your assessments • Enables achievement of nMRCGP • Helps you plan your learning • Encourages reflection of professional development https://eportfolio.rcgp.org.uk/login.asp We are all going to have a go!

  14. What goes in the e-portfolio? • A log of learning events • Personal development plan (PDP) • Evidence of all the assessments • A skills log • Personal library space (your files ) You need to go there and explore

What happens if I have a problem? • Talk to your clinical supervisor • Talk to your educational supervisor • Talk to the VTS Course Organisers • Talk to your peers • Let us know early • GP School if we cant resolve problems locally • Register with a local GP • Lots of other supporting groups (e.g. AA)
