  1. 2.10 Factoring Difference of Squares Difference of Squares a2 – b2 = (a + b)(a – b) (Hint: split the powers/exponents in half) Note: a2 + b2 ≠ (a + b)(a – b) ≠ (a + b)(a + b) Take it Further: am – bn = (a + b)(a – b)

  2. Ex. Show each equation is true. a. 9x2 – 16 = (3x – 4)(3x + 4) b. 10000 – 4 = 1002 – 22 = (100 + 2)(100 – 2)

  3. Ex. Show each equation is true. a. (x + 3)2 – 1 = [(x + 3) – 1][(x + 3) + 1] b. n3 – 1 = (n 3/2 + 1)(n 3/2 – 1)

  4. HW 2.10 pg. 121 # 1, 24 – 26
