THE VIRTUAL OFFICE • Evidence of the virtual office began to emerge during the 1970s as low-priced microcomputers and communications equipment made it possible for individuals to work at home • At the time, the term teleprocessing was used, later the term telecommuting was introduced to describe how employees could electronically “commute” to work

  4. THE DEFINITION OF VIRTUAL ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE • In general , • Has little or no formal structure , few permanent employees , a very small staff and a modest • administrative facility. • Highly centralized with little or no departmentalization • Provides maximum flexibility while concentrating on what the organization does best • Reduced control over key parts of the business • Electronic communication networks enable firms to become virtual organizations, so now their development work can be done almost anywhere

  5. 6. CONCLUSION Managing an organisation in virtual environment is challenging, thus require managers to consider other issues such as reporting, remunerations and communication
