POWER OF EMPERON THE POWER OF EMPERON TECHNOLOGY
POWER OF EMPERON Exclusive to Konica Minolta • Only vendor in our industry that “owns the code” • We make our own print drivers, network interfaces and video interfaces • No reliance on third party companies for support • Complete control over design and performance • Designed from ground up for MFPs • No finger pointing for problem resolution
HISTORY OF EMPERON • 1977 - Quality Micro Systems (QMS) was founded in Mobile, Alabama, by James L. Busby. The company initially developed controller technology in the form of graphics add-on cards, called Magnum boards, for industrial line printers. The magnum boards converted standard character printers into graphics output devices that printed large letters for people to read from a distance and bar codes for computers to read. • - 1982 - Launched the first laser printer controller, called Lasergrafix, and was an external. Lasergrafix controllers found homes in the science and engineering departments at many colleges and universities. Custom applications were often written for things like map making. Sometimes, the only output device compatible with the application was a Lasergrafix printer equipped with QMS's proprietary graphics language, called QUIC.
HISTORY OF EMPERON • 1991 - QMS launches the QMS-PS 410 desktop b/w laser printer, using UltraScript, a PostScript interpreter. Adobe Corp. had tested UltraScript extensively and qualified it as good enough to carry the Adobe name. Named “Crown” technology. • 1992 - QMS launches the QMS Hammerhead 860, which was the first desktop b/w tabloid laser printer on the market, offering automatic emulation switching (between PCL & PostScript), optional network capability. Base MSRP was $4595.00 • 1993 - QMS launched the world’s first desktop color laser printer, the QMS ColorScript Laser 1000, with base MSRP of $12,499.00. This also was the first PostScript driven color page printer. • 1999 – QMS Corp. acquired by then Minolta Corp.
