GSP activities in TEC-MPE Jose Gonzalez del Amo TEC-MPE
GSP activities • Propulsion 2000: strategy study to forecast the future propulsion technologies (in the next 10 years) • Remote sensing Spacecraft with Electric Propulsion. • Plasma beam as an antenna • Methods to improve efficiency in MPD (10-100 kW) Etc.
Propulsion 2000 • This study has identified the most promising propulsion systems and has been used as a reference to build up the TRP programme in propulsion in the last years. • All the European propulsion industries were involved during phase 1. In a second phase one group carryed out the detailed assessment of roadmaps.
Remote Sensing Spacecraft with Electric Propulsion • The output of this study has identified mini-ion engines and mini-Hall effect thrusters as the main propulsion systems for future Earth Observation applications. • TRP activities in these domains have been proposed (mini-ion engine is already funded)
Plasma beam as an antenna • This innovative and creative idea which was considered during this study was carefully investigated • Interdisciplinary efforts were required to carry out this activity (telecommunications and propulsion). • TRP is not yet pursued, maybe too innovative
Methods to improve the efficiency in applied field MPD • This activity has used techniques from the nuclear research to investigate this propulsion issue. A scientific transfer from the nuclear to the space field has taken place successfully. • The study has generated an innovative solution to this problem. • A TRP activity has been proposed as a natural follow on.
Conclusion • Strategy studies are well suited to forecast future needs which can be used to prepare TRP programmes • Assessment of new applications (mission analysis are well followed by TRP activities • Scientific and technical analysis can be used to define scope of TRP activities.
