I will use the MN Food Charter to guide my own professional work. It will help me determine my goals and set my workplan priorities!
I'd like to work on increasing the ability of farmers and rural grocery stores to connect to sell locally produced products - grown in the surrounding community - in these stores, increasing healthy food options for residents in this area as well.
Educate kids the importance of eating healthy, local, organic food in schools. We must rouse their curiosity and get their creative mind flowing and asking questions like where their food comes from and do I really want to drink this Mountain Dew? Issues who r outside area serving new food hub, but still close by that hub, on how they can overcome transportation issues.
One of the strategies within Food Skills is to offer employees paid time and free sources to strengthen food skills- we are adding a demonstration kitchen to teach cooking skills at our healthcare system for the community - partner with Extension and other organizations to get this done- the Food Charter
Help rural store change display and possibly connect w produce case. Work w treatment ctr to establish healthy food policy. Suggest ways for low income schools
Using the food charter to support community efforts to increase access to local food and to promote sustainable farming initiatives.
Empowering SNAP/EBT users to demand acceptance of their supplemental food dollars to buy healthy, fresh food and support their local farmers.
I will bring the MN Food Charter to the comprehensive planning process happening right now in Rochester.

Food skills - I am a dietitian-along with advocacy to congress and state law makers regarding healthy food.
I was inspired to see a focus on decreasing access, affordability and accessibility to Unhealthy Foods in addition to increasing that for healthy foods

The MN Food Charter lifts up the work that is already happening across MN communities and lends important credibility to this work!
It is comprehensive and colorful. The sections are broken out into small paragraphs and easy to digest and regurgitate
At the U of M we've instituted healthy food cooking classes for employees. They are reimbursed for the cost by the university and get wellness points that can be used to reduce their medical premiums.
Teach nutrition to Lower income based people using local foods
I'm excited that the charter stresses food skills as the foundation of healthy eating. You can give people resources and access to healthy foods, but if they don't know how to shop our prepare the food, they won't get the maximum benefit from it. Connecting dairy farmers with community gardens. Peace

Farmland access and preservation support is a treasure that I have been waiting for. Our farms are fast disappearing. Thank you for your commitment to change.
Addressing pay, labor and infrastructure issues that farmers are currently facing is extremely important and something we all need to work to improve.
Use the food charter as a framework to educate people about strategies to make a difference.
So far my takeaway treasure is the user friendly food charter that has provided me with quite a few great strategies to take back to my tribal community.
