Does magnetism affect plant growth?I chose this question because if this works we can use magnets for farming or gardens. Big Question
HYPOTHOSIS I predict that the plant with the magnets will grow faster because I learned that seeds are diamagnetic which means that if seeds are near a magnet it gives off a weak magnetic field
Interesting Facts 1.Seeds are diamagnetic 2.Seeds give off a small magnetic field 3.Prairie grass grows taller then normal grass 4.Grass sprouts in 3 to 4 days 5.Magnets will help seeds grow
Experiment • Materials: • Two small identical pots • 20 grass seeds • 5 cups of dirt • Ruler • A sunny place • Water • Notepad • Pen • Camera • 10 medium sized magnets • Measuring cup • Procedure: First, take both pots and fill ¾ of the way with dirt. Second, put in 10 grass seed in the center of both pots. Third, put the magnets into one of the pots. Next, put both pots in a very sunny area. Then, water each pot with 3 teaspoons of water every day for about a month. After that measure with your ruler which plant had the most growth and write this down in your notebook and decide if the pot with the magnets grew more or less.
Observations • The plant with magnets sprouted before the plant without magnets • The plant with the magnets grew faster and taller • The plant with the magnets is still alive right now ever when we did not water it for a while • The plant with the magnets grew at least ½ a inch every day
Analysis As you can see from the data the plant with magnets did grow faster. It started growing two days before the normal plant. In the end the plant with magnets also grew almost grew two times as much as the normal plant.
In conclusion magnets do effect how plants grow. The plant grew taller and faster and is still currently alive. My hypothesis was correct, I thought the plant with the magnets would grow faster and taller and it did. If I were to do an experiment like this again I would try magnets on a plant that produced a fruit or vegetable and see if it would help it grow. Conclusions
