Research Participation Website Purposes • For Researchers: • Provide online “message board” to post research and recruit participants. • For Students: • Provide online access to view and sign up for posted research. • Receive extra credit for participation.
Participating in UB Research Guidelines and Procedures
How it all works…. • Researchers post their research on the website. • Students sign up for research. • Experiments, surveys (paper-and-pencil or online), etc. • Students participate in research. • Instructors add extra credit to grade. (dramatization)
How does the extra creditapply to my grade? • Studies offer different amounts of credit • 1 credit = 1 participation hour • e.g., a 3-hour experiment would earn you 3 credits • 1 credit = 1% point added to final grade • OR: 1 credit = 1 point added to total points • Max credits = 15
Participation is VOLUNTARY • You do not have to participate in any studies if you do not wish to receive extra credit. • Once you begin a study, you have the option to leave it at any time. You will receive credit in proportion to time spent participating (1 credit minimum).
Important Guidelines for Participation • Sign-up/cancel appointments • must be done at least 24 hours in advance • No shows: penalty credits • Lateness: researcher can decide whether or not to allow participation

Student Procedures - Overview • Request account • Receive login information • Login and change password • Sign up for studies • View/change study participation
Step 1a: Request Account • Visit http://ubalt.sona-systems.com • Click “Request an account here”
Step 1b: Request Account • Enter information into boxes • Use your UB mail account as your username!! • Select your course!!!
Step 2: Receive Login Information • I will receive account request and approve account. • Wait for account information to be returned via email.
Step 3a: Login and Change Password • Go to main page: http://ubalt.sona-systems.com • Login to system with provided login info
Step 3b: Login and Change Password • Enter “My Profile”
Step 3c: Login and Change Password • Type new and old passwords into boxes • Click “Update”
Step 4a: Sign up for Studies • Enter “Studies” menu
Step 4b: Sign up for Studies • View list of studies • Click on study title to view complete description
Step 4c: Sign up for Studies • If interested, click on “View Time Slots for This Study.”
Step 4d: Sign up for Studies • Find available time slot • Select desired course to credit • Click “Sign Up”
Step 4e: Sign up for Studies • Receive confirmation • Record information
Step 5a: View/Change Study Participation • Enter “Schedule & Credits” Menu
Step 5b: View/Change Study Participation • Check Information: credits, sign-ups, and course breakdown of credits
Step 5c: View/Change Study Participation • To cancel an appointment, click “Cancel”
