Invention: Monopoly • Monopoly was invented in 1933. • Monopoly at first sold for four dollars. • Monopoly was the best selling board game. • There are now international championships, clubs, ongoing games on the internet. • Today Monopoly is played by a half of a billion people a day. Inventor: Charles Darrow • Charles Darrow lived in German town, Pennsylvania. • He was unemployed when he created Monopoly. • Soon not only friends but stores by Philadelphia were claiming copies of Darrow’s game Monopoly. • Darrow could no longer handle the demand so 1934 he gave the company to the Parkers Brothers. • Charles retired a millionaire in 1935.
