  1. NAIF PDS to PDS4 Transition Plans PDSMC 11/29/12

  2. NAIF Transition Plans • All SPICE data archives are of the accumulating type • Many are made by NAIF wearing our “ops” hat, which could allow for restructuring of the pipeline to PDS4 • But six are made by others and will stay as PDS3 to the end • Given that PDS4 will accommodate PDS3-style data sets, it would seem there is no compelling reason to transition these “active” data sets • We’re interested: are there arguments otherwise? • Whether or not it would make sense to transition some/all of them after the missions are “complete” could be considered later on • This also applies to already completed archives in that most of them are also seeing occasional updates • NAIF does plan to use PDS4 for future missions, starting with LADEE (then MAVEN and ORX)
