Univision San Francisco Public Affairs Internship Bianca Padilla
What I learned During my Internship with Univision Communications I learned that at Univision 14 Public Affairs is the liaison with different institutions in the local community. I assisted with the planning of community events and campaigns. I supported the process, coordination, and production of “Encuentro en la Bahía”. I learned how the Public Affairs department works with and is related to all other departments at Univision. > I translated pages and pages for the FCC from Spanish to English. I researched and contacted potential organizations to collaborate with.
Encuentro Public Affairs Show/ Segment
Encuentro >I wrote the summary and interview questions for many of the segments >I hosted the guests as well as instructed them and answered any questions they had Encuentro which was its own public affairs show, merged into a segment on Al Desperatarwhere more viewers are reached. The segment provides viewers with information about their own community. It focuses on community news, events, resources, and issues.
Es El Momento & Salud Es Vida Community Events & Campaigns
Community Events & Campaigns Es El Momento February 25, 2012 College education fair Aimed to help students reach and attend college This event is important because many Hispanic students do not have the resources or information on how to apply, get financial aid or know their options about colleges Univision’s collaboration with other organizations made it possible for Hispanic students to get more information and ask questions
Community Events & Campaigns Salud Es Vida March 25, 2012 Health fair Over 15 health care organizations at booths Two speakers; Doctora Maribel Santana Cruz and Doctor a Isabel Book signing and give away by both doctors This event is important because not only is health a serious issue for the community but many do not have access to the medical resources they need Univision’s collaboration with other organizations made it possible for the community to ask questions to health care organizations and obtain more information and resources
Community & Public Affairs at Univision • Builds relationships and collaborations with local community organizations and officials • Can serve as the voice of the community • Provides ways for the community to receive and know of resources, such as in Es El Momentocampagin, Saludes Vida event and the Encuentrosegment • Empowers the Bay Area Latino community
