  1. WACH4 Summary First, I’d like to thank all of you for the work achieved this summer: Many impressive results achieved and reported to this Workshop • Thermal stability at level of 0.03ºC, increase of capsule T by only 0.1 ºC • Dynamics of thermal behavior • Universality of irradiation slope a at the level of 6.8%, reproducibility during multiple irradiations and recoveries (LHC cycle) • Stability of the final monitoring system at the level of 1.4‰ after correction for laser pulse width variation • Good Reproducibility of relative inter-calibration • Possibility to obtain initially this relative inter-calibration from CRISTAL data at the level of 4.5% • Possibility to infer APD gains at the level of 1.5% from 1/M dM/dV

  2. Analysis is not finished : a few points need a bit more understanding Non-linearities (0.8%) for E < 60 GeV . Is it due to front material?? Variation of pedestal when running the laser, difference free or fixed gain Mysterious 8 ‰ loss of signal for Xal 1142 Better comparison of pion and electron irradiations (use side Xals ???) and undefined problem with one electronics channel during pion irradiation Implementation of coherent noise

  3. Questions raised at this meeting • Number of samples ? • Raw data format / processing strategy • XDAQ or not ? • Inclusion of DCS in the DAQ • Which module next year ? M4 ? • Which SM (SM0 and SM1 in parallel?)

  4. The future We must prepare for next year. Next year will be far more difficult • Many more channels • Aim is to test 400 channels of both VFE solutions during the Summer, and then 1700 channels with the chosen VFE with laser before Dec03 Two tasks with some phase difference • Analysis answer will have to be very fast Choice between various electronics solutions can not wait much longer than Summer 03 • Many aspects will be completely new to us (beyond the VFE) • Low Voltage • Integration & cooling • New Readout modules • Red laser • ….

  5. The future • How can we maximize our chances of success ? Put behind us all what is possible using 2002 data /hardware as bench Analysis Software • Collect the 2002 work in a public library CVS (ex: intercalib methods, APD gain measurement, noise evaluation…) • Choose one reconstruction pulse method, possibly a simple one, and set up all related tools to prepare the needed constants Hardware Decide soon about additional hardware for pulse shape measurement Laser pulse measurement Green function measurement (nanogreen laser??)

  6. The future • Organize ourselves in a more efficient way • Software Create a team responsible for data quality control/preparatory work Have more coordination (regular meetings..) to improve collaboration Start this coordination activity long before test beam • Hardware (was not so much the topics of this workshop) Create/identify a team (“8th task force” for system tests. Grouped around 2002 team + the future ECAL electronics coordinator ?

  7. Thanks Great Thanks to the organizing committee from LLR for the excellent organization
