  1. Welcome!!! Miss Algara Rosa Parks Elementary 6th Grade, D Track

  2. Meet Your Teacher • This year is my first year teaching sixth grade. I’ve taught 1st, 2nd,4th, and 5th • I graduated from University of California Riverside with my BA in Liberal Studies and History. I received my Teaching Credential from CBU, and am currently working on my Masters in Education • Outside of school, I coach the Santiago Hip Hop Team and love spending time with my family, going to Disneyland, and the Beach

Our Daily Schedule 8:25 – 9:00 Morning Warm Up and ELD 9:00 – 10:00 Language Arts10:00 10:00-11:00 Writing/ Grammar 11:00 – 11:55 Recess and Lunch 11:55 – 12:15 Silent Reading 12:15 – 1:15 Math 1:15 – 1:45 Power Rotations 1:45 – 2:50 Social Studies 2:50 Dismissal (1:50 on Wednesdays) • Laptop Cart 2x a week • Library: Thursdays after Lunch • P.E.: Wednesdays • Fun Friday Rotations: 2:20-2:50 Fridays only

Classroom Expectations Class Expectations (what I expect from your child) • Students will be in school everyday unless they are ill or off track. • Students will do all homework, class work, and study for all tests and quizzes. • Students will pay attention in class and not cause distractions or disturb others. • Students will ALWAYS put 100% effort in all their work and anything they do in my class. • Students will take full responsibility for their actions and decisions made while being prepared for the consequences (positive or negative). • Students will respect other students, other teachers, staff, and me at ALL TIMES. • Students will follow all school and classroom rules. • Students will be responsible for their own actions of lack of action.

  5. Classroom Rules Class Motto: “ Everyone participates, everyone learns. You either do it with us, or in front of us.” We have established and posted several rules for our classroom. They are as follows: Always be ready to learn • Always be ready to learn • Allow the teacher to teach and others to learn and participate • Be respectful • Listen and follow directions • Take risks and make mistakes • Believe in yourself • Be responsible • Try new things • Dream big • Work Hard • Read • Have fun! STAR Sit up and listen. Track the speaker. Ask and answer questions. Respect everyone.

Grading Policy The Grading Scale is on our class website and in your students planner  Language Arts: (Reading Narrative & Reading Informational, Spelling, Writing, and Oral Language) • Theme Skills Tests • Grammar Tests • Spelling Tests • Writing Essays- Revised and On Demand • Weekly Word, Debate, and 40 Book Challenge Letters Math: • Investigation Quizzes, Unit Projects, ACE Social Studies and Science: • Lesson Activities, RTI’s, Chapter Tests, & Projects Oral Language: • Oral Presentations • Fluency Checks Effort Grades (O/S/N): Homework, Computer, PE, Art, and Behavior Parent Portal: http://www.cnusd.k12.ca.us/cnusd-portal Student Connection: https://studentconnect.cnusd.k12.ca.us/ • Weekly Progress Reports will be sent home in communication folder every Wednesday

Homework Policy • Each student is provided with a Student Planner to assist in developing positive organization and academic planning. • Students are expected to: • Bring the Student Planner to class every day. • Write all assignments in Student Planner each day. • Complete unfinished classwork as homework if they are behind • Show the Student Planner to parent(s) each day • Show the teacher comments parents have made in the Student Planner. (You can always email me too ) Please sign the Student Planner each night indicating that you have monitored homework completion. • Students who do not complete their homework on a particular night will need to have it completed by Friday in order to participate in Fun Friday. • Students who are consistently completing their homework will be “paid”; those students who come in with no homework at all showing no effort will be “fined”

One Last Note • In conclusion, teaching children is the most rewarding and fulfilling accomplishment I have achieved thus far in my life, and I will stop at nothing to make sure every child is successful. I hope I have your full support in this endeavor, especially in the area of self-accountability and responsibility for actions and decisions made. I truly believe all children will make better decisions in life if they are held accountable for their actions. I am looking forward to a fantastic school year! Thank you for all your support.
