Talking about the role a family plays in helping a loved one overcome addiction, he says that when a person is struggling with addiction, everyone in the family gets affected. The person trapped in a cycle of substance abuse & addiction feels helpless and expresses it the form of anger at family members which often makes the latter pull away. These feelings, Phil says, are however normal. So, if you have a loved one who is trying to achieve and maintain sobriety, be patient and give them the support they need. According to Phil Lovin, the support of family can have a major positive impact on a person’s addiction recovery. One of the other benefits of family therapy is that it helps the family members have a better understanding of what addiction exactly is. This further allows them to figure out how to best support the recovery of their loved one.
