They were steam engine driven and used mainly for land drainage. The first electric motor pumps finally emerged in the 1900s. Even though electric motors now lead the pump industry because electricity cannot reach all locations. It was not until the late 1980's that we could infinitely vary the speed and performance of an electric motor driven pump and it became industrial pump manufacturers’ main selling point. TODAY In today’s scenario, the main developments in industrial pumps’ technology are driven by the end user's application requirements. This need was consistently met through the many changes to pump power/drive source as new technology became available and was adopted into the pump arena.
