WSI ePortfolio Nayomie Baihn - Project Officer TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute, Workforce Capability Unit
Why ? Hairdressing at Nepean were looking for a way to engage younger students, control quality in assessments and have the ability to give formative feedback.
ePortfolio Software & Hosting • Mahara was chosen as an ePortfolio platform as it suited the needs of the section, is easy to set up and has a social network feel.
When ? Hairdressing introduced Mahara for assessments that require a combination of photographic evidence, graphics and text. There is heaps of other stuff you can do too!
Where ? Students can access and utilise their WSI ePortfolio at TAFE, at home, from the workplace, from any device that can access the internet.
Ongoing Feedback • Providing ongoing feedback is of great benefit to students. • Feedback on views - can be private or public
Communication • Profile wall - can be private or public • It’s an easy way of communicating with students– similar to FaceBook
Current Usage • WSI Institution Membership = 348 • Staff = 52 • Groups = 28 • Students = 296
Our Challenges Keeping all staff abreast with training and support Ensuring students have the required equipment and skills
