After 8 years and £50M of funding, how do you assess ICT in your school • Technical provision? • Are you confident in the availability of ICT in your school? • Personalised learning? • Do you provide your pupils with personalised learning through ICT? • Peripheral and not mainstream? • Do computers remain peripheral and not mainstream to learning in your school? • ICT and the future • Do you believe ICT and digital technologies are key to 21st century learning

Where do we go from here • Technology in place • Telecommunications in the ground and homes (BT and Telewest) • Connections to City Council buildings (high capacity) • Wireless in the air (mobile phone, 3G, Wifi, Wimax) • March 2005 digital usage • Internet use anywhere = 59% • Broadband at home = 31% • Digital Television = 63% • Mobile Phone = 82% • What does the future hold • 59% teachers willing to use computer games in classroom • Half of EU set to be on 'triple play' of TV, broadband and phone by 2010 • 2005: min 20,000 podcasts • “ten years down the road everybody is going to be searching for podcasts” What use can we make of these digital technologies

Aim: Birmingham recognised as a leading European Digital City by 2010’ Mission: To enable, develop and embed, in the Council and its partners, the benefits that digital technologies can make to the social, democratic, economic and environmental regeneration of the City How: City-wide cross sector programme to exploit digital technologies to meet the needs of citizens, businesses, learners, visitors and communities.
