Powerful Falcon The powerful Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) is a raptor or bird of prey. The adults have blue gray wings, dark brown backs, buff colored undersides with lots of brown spots, and they have white faces with a black “ Tear stripe” on their cheeks. It weighs about 2 lbs and ranges from 15-21 inches in length with a wingspan of 3.5 feet. Females are slightly larger than males. They usually live 7-15 years and 20 is the max. They are the fastest birds in the world reaching speeds of 200 mph. This amazing bird is commonly known as a duck hawk. It eats other birds and bats in mid-air.
The Amazing Falcon’s Habitat This amazing and beautiful bird lives on every continent except Antarctica. They live in caves or on top of skyscrapers. They have adapted to cities and perch on top of skyscrapers. When another bird flies by, the falcon will strike.
The Falcon’s Endangerment This Falcon is endangered because of DDT, DDE, and other pesticides. Those pesticides cause eggshell thinning. Also, owls (Great Horned) and Golden Eagles eat the babies. It is against the law to kill Peregrine Falcon because of its situation. Falcon perches are also being made. When Cornell University finds eggs of this bird, they save and protect the eggs. They study them also. Why it is endangered What people are doing to help the Falcon
