How Do Children Learn With Computers? • Drills and Practice: reinforce already-learned material • Tutorial Exercises: learn new material • Simulation Programs: problem solving • Word Processing: associating words and pictures
WOW! • Kids as young as two years old know a computer as well as their toy box! • Autistic children as young as two years of age can maneuver computers better than I can!
Follow-up Questions • How do children pay attention to computers long enough to learn anything? • How do preschoolers use a keyboard not knowing what all the symbols mean?

Answers to Follow-up Questions • Computers began being available to young children approximately 15 years ago! • Although children have short attention spans, they get immediate results with computers which acts as a reward to them.
For Your Information • Technology as one can see, helps children develop skills they would otherwise not learn until later in life • Based on the success of computers in young children’s classrooms, computer use will eventually spread to all pre-school age classrooms, given sufficient funding
