Schedule for MTA • Highest Priority goes to vacuum RF studies – 805 button cell and 201 MICE prototype • Button runs take about 3 weeks total • Maybe we can speed this up with automation? • We have 10 potential samples plus 5 or so from the UK • 45 weeks of data taking! • 201 running can for the most part run in parallel • But we have to move the 201 to gain access to change out buttons on the 805 • Second round of KEK convectively cooled LH2 absorber tests • We were attempting to do this in August (3 weeks), but we do not know if our Japanese colleagues can make it to Fermilab then • Muon’s Inc HP cell tests (their first draft of run plan – 22 weeks) • Some tests also need magnet • Requires 805 button cell to be removed • Manpower issue for fast turn-around • Beam tests – how and when?
Schedule for MTA • Reconfiguration of MTA • Raise components to beam height • Install cryo-infrastructure • Transfer line system • valve boxes • Cryogen hookup to magnet • Estimate 3-4 month down time • Impact of Beam line installation during shutdown still not fully understood • Need to develop run schedule for August – July08 over the next month
201 MHz Cavity Operation in B Field • Initial 201 MHz operation in B Field • Limited to few hundred Gauss • Using Fringe Field of 4T magnet (in blue) • Need new vac pump to allow 201 to be moved right next to magnet • Gives 1T at window • Want to run with Coupling Coil as soon as it is available
Reconfiguration of MTA • Need Coupling Coil (2.5T) MICE design • Shown in green schematically • THIS IS A CRUCIAL TEST FOR MICE AND FOR NF & MC in general • High Gradient RF operation in a magnetic field
