  2. “As summer approached, the war in full swing, I began to second-guess my decision to join the army. I told myself I was doing what I had to do. Not to mention I had already signed up. There was no easy way out, short of desertion. And in a time of war desertion equals jail time.” Ryan has signed up at the time to go into the army. He is now stuck in the army, and can’t get out. The only way out of an army after you have joined permanently, is to outlast your specified term.
