Appendix 1 – Calculating the% of Welsh quitters to use SSW • 2.3m adults (19+) (Census, 2011) • 23% of adults in Wales smoke (WHS,2011) = 529,000 adult smokers • 33% of English smokers tried to quit (West et al, 2011) – if comparable 176,000 try to quit per year • 10,200 attended SSW in 2011/12 (SSW 2012) • c.6% Welsh quitters use the service each year Early findings from a qualitative evaluation of Stop Smoking Wales
