Instructions for Notesbook This is your composition, college ruled, lined notebook. This is used for key handouts and notes.
Key things to remember: • Keep this organized correctly • There will be notebook checks and it is much easier to grade if done correctly • This is similar to how high school sets up their notebooks • Please write legibly and stay within the lines/boxes • Do not cram notes or diagrams in a small space. Use the pages in your notebook and continue on to another page even if it’s just for a small section.
1. Make Cover Page Student’s first & last name Mrs. Taylor Period ___ Course Name (leave back of page blank)
2. References Page This is where all the very important handouts will go that you will need to reference throughout the year. References Description Pg # Description Pg# (Leave the back of this page blank)
3. Handouts/References After your reference page, this is where you’ll be taping your handouts • Tape your yellow “Cornell Notes Guide” onto the next page. • Number the top outside corner “1” for page one of your references
4. Record on References Page Go back now and fill in “Cornell Notes Guide” onto your references page so you may quickly go back and find it. References Description Pg # Description Pg# (Leave the back of this page blank) 1. Cornell Notes Guide 1
5. Finish Numbering Reference Pages Continue to number the reference pages front and back all the way to “20” on the top outside corners. These papers will be used for future handouts.
6. Section off References from rest of Notesbook with Page Arrow • Using the empty page directly to the right of Reference/handout page “20”, make a page arrow. • Do this by folding the bottom outside corner up towards the centerfold to create a 45 degree angle. • Then take the top outside corner and fold down towards the centerfold to make an other 45 degree angle • Crease the folds and thus you have an arrow
7. Table of Contents • The page immediately after the Page Arrow will now start your “notes” portion of your Notesbook. • Copy the following: Table of Contents Description Pg # Description Pg #
7. Table of Contents, still • Continue making 3 more Table of Contents pages with the same set up. • So there will be 2 front & back pages to write table of contents – 4 pages total
8. Add Notes • After your last Table of Contents page, directly to the right, tape your 1st page of your “Syllabus Notes”. • Number the top outside corner “1” 1
8. Notes • If you wrote on the second page of your syllabus notes, turn page “1” with your syllabus notes on it over, and tape the 2nd notes to the other side of the paper. • Number that page on the top outside corner “2”
9. Record Notes in Table of Contents • Go back and record what you just put in your notesbook • “Syllabus Notes pg 1-2 Table of Contents Description Pg # Description Pg # Syllabus Notes 1-2
10. Repeat Process • Remember now, when you receive • A yellow handout/reference • Tape yellow handout/reference in the reference section in the front of your notesbook • Record the page number on the reference page • Notes • Tape/record in Notes section • Number the top outside corner • Record the page number on the table of contents
