What is SOI-AI3 course? • Course to introduce AI3 project • Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippine, Vietnam,Sri Lanka, China, Japan • Provide the course as a part of SOI project • Aiming at University freshmen level • English based lectures

Technology aspects, basic knowledge • Application 1.5 hour • Mr. Onno from Indonesia • OS architecture, UDL, web, web cache.. • Satellite technology 1.5 hour • Mr. Takei and Mr. Izumiyama from JSAT • Basic knowledge about satellite (size, bandwidth, where…) History of satellites

Each country’s topics • Each country (Thailand, Malaysia, Philippine, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, China, Japan) makes one lecture with 4 topics • Social background 20 min. • Basic information about each country, about policy, people, weather, language, religion, etc… • Communication Policy 20 min. • Which bandwidth they can use for satellite Internet, which is allowed and which is not
Each country’s topics cont. • Internet status 20 min. • How many people have computers in each country, what are the backbones, etc… • AI3 project in each country 20 min. • Which organization, people of the AI3, research interests, motivation, history • From technical aspect, what dish they are using…
Schedule • Starting on April 10, 2000 (Mon) • Student registration will be in March, 2000 • http://www.sfc.wide.ad.jp/soi/ai3/ • Semester (ending on July 17, 2000) course • Classes will be up on every Monday • Assignments on every classes and exam at the end
