OBSTACLES “What are the problems and challenges we face because the lack of uniformity among nutrition standards?” • What we know. • Our staff understands that we must follow guidelines. • Our staff understands that all schools must have a Wellness Policy. • Our staff is confused when they hear that requirements vary from District to District or Department to Department. • Our staff is confused when food service is restricted serving certain items but the foods sold or made available to students have no restrictions. • Our staff is discouraged when they work to be role models, educating our students about proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles when there is little support encouraging a consistent message. • Our staff is discouraged when they suggest introducing new products only to find out they are limited because of cost or availability. • Who makes the call? • We all are on the same board but going in different directions. • Pieces of the puzzle do not fit. • Surveys • What we found. • Goes back to finding that it isn’t easy when clear direction is not given and followed.
Solutions • Speak up • Educate • Don’t sit still • Cheer up • Help one another
