8. Old Hickory • The British forces planed to invade the United States from the South • Andrew Jackson and his troops were ready for them • Andrew Jackson's troops called him “Old Hickory” because it is the hardest wood they knew of

Battle of New Orleans • Andrew Jackson’s sharp shooters hid behind barrels of cotton and waited to shoot the British troops • After the battle 2,000 British soldiers were dead and only 20 Americans • This is considered one of the Greatest battle of the war of 1812 • However, this battle was needless because a piece agreement had already been signed between the British and the Americans
