  5. How do I get on the Honor Roll? Honor Roll = 3.25 GPA High Honor Roll = 3.75 GPA Honor Roll is figured each trimester Academic Letter = 3.5 GPA for 6 trimesters Academic Pin after you receive Academic Letter

  6. The Dreaded F How much does it really affect my GPA? Woods B 3.00 Phy Sci C- 1.67 Band A- 3.67 Health B- 2.67 PE F 0.00 11.01 11.01 divided by 5 = 2.200 B 3.00 C- 1.67 A- 3.67 B- 2.67 C 2.00 13.01 13.01 divided by 5 = 2.602 If you fail a required course, it must be re-taken

  7. Why should I worry about my GPA? You’ll qualify for more “merit” based money for college (The higher the GPA, the more $$ you’ll receive) You’ll be able to apply for more scholarships. (Sometimes you need to have a certain GPA just to apply) It is part of the RAI formula. Students need an RAI score of 245 to receive automatic admission to ISU, UNI, IOWA

  8. So, what’s an RAI Score again? • Regent’s Admission Index score • Regent Schools are ISU, UNI, IOWA • Admission to ISU, UNI, IOWA • Formula • 2 x ACT Composite • 1 x rank percentile • 20 x GPA • 5 x core courses (core course = 1 year or 2 trimesters in math, English, Social Studies, Science and Foreign Language • 245 or higher is automatic admission

  9. Let’s use our sample transcript: • 2 x 18 (ACT) • 1 x 41 (Rank %) • 20 x 2.702 (GPA) • 5 x 18 (# of core courses) • Total = 221 Private colleges have different admissions requirements. Some are very selective; some are not. This student will not be automatically accepted into ISU, UNI or IOWA (needs a score of 245) This student may choose to attend a community college to receive a certificate, diploma or Associate’s degree. He/she may also choose to transfer to a 4 year college.

  10. Post-secondary means: “after” High School Elementary = Primary High School = Secondary

  11. Find the option that is best for you! • Community College (Iowa’s are excellent!) • 1 year program, 2 year program or 2 years, then transfer • Four year college • Smaller private or ISU, UNI or IOWA • Out of state college/university • Do your research about admission • Military • Can provide money for education • Don’t let a recruiter pressure you - Know what you are committing to before you commit! • Might want to explore the options with ROTC

  12. Who might look at your Transcript? Colleges Military Employers Scholarship Committees

  13. Look at your Transcript • Set some goals • Grade point- every year • Final GPA • Rank every year • Final Rank • Write them on your transcript • Keep this transcript as a reminder

  14. Finish the year STRONG! No Regrets
