Purpose and Value of the Awards Program The awards program honors IEEE volunteers, engineers, teachers, and student organization within the Section and Region. This is important because those who contribute to IEEE and to our community should be recognized and thanked for their hard work, dedication, and contributions. The awards program is a vital part of member retention.

SCV Section 2018 Awards Winners • Outstanding Service and Leadership to the IEEE • Taylor Winship: For the attention to detail and accuracy and the energy she has exhibited as a Chapter Chair and as a Section Secretary in the improved management of the SFBAC TEMS Chapter and the Santa Clara Valley Section which result in making our Section a leading element within Region 6 • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who is a Young Professional • Wenbo Yin: For Significant and Documented contributions to IEEE Young Professional development and engagement in the Santa Clara Valley Section • Outstanding Large Student Branch of the Year • University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC): Outstanding Large Student Branch of the Year Presented to University of California, Santa Cruz for implementation of outstanding technical and professional student activities
SCV Section Chair Special Award • T. Kim Parnell, Ph.D., PE: In recognition of Dr. T. Kim Parnell's many years of outstanding service to IEEE SCV Section, including collaboration with ASME and SAE • Ed Aoki: For his selfless dedication and ongoing contributions to ensuring the persistent success of the Santa Clara Valley Section, through his actions in his role of SCV Section Financial Committee member and as SCV Section Co-Secretary, as well as impacts from his many actions that are not even always observed • Glenn Friedman: For his extraordinary dedication in taking on the Section Vice Chair role during a critical time, and, providing substantial and thoughtful contributions to the productive operation of the SCV Section ExCom • Ram Sivaraman: In recognition of many years of outstanding service to IEEE SCV Section as the Membership Chair, resulting in the SCV Section receiving the 2015 and 2018 Outstanding Section Membership Recruitment and Retention Performance Award • Dick Ahrons: In recognition of many years of outstanding service to IEEE SCV Section and Milestones Program
The 2019 Section and Region 6 Awards Program • The 2019 SCV Section Awards Program is the same as 2018. • All Section awards nominators are encouraged to also participate in the Region 6 Awards Program. • Nominators need to complete and submit the Award Nomination Form as email attachment. • The endorsement letters will be submitted by email attachment.
Rules and Requirements to Submit Award Nominations • For 2019, the deadline for submission is May 15, 2019 • There are no self nomination • All nominations of individuals require two letters of endorsement • All nominations and endorsement letters must come from IEEE members and they must be members within the Section where they submit their nominations or letters. • You can only nominate an individual or an organization within your own Section.
Awards Categories • Award nomination form for Outstanding Corporate Service • SCV Section Small Student Branch of the Year (less than 25 active members) • SCV Section Large Student Branch of the Year (25 or more active members) • SCV Section Outstanding Chapter of the Year (includes Technical Councils and Affinity Groups) except WIE and LMAG have their own categories • SCV Section Outstanding WIE Chapter of the year and/or individuals who promoted women in engineering • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who promoted women in engineering • SCV Section Outstanding LMAG Chapter of the year and / or individuals who promoted Life Members Activities • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who promoted Life Member activities • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who promoted Global Humanitarian Projects or Activities • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who promoted Membership Development or Senior Member Elevation • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who made contributions to STEM and Education as a Mentor, Assistant, or Facilitator • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who is an Outstanding Educator • SCV Section Outstanding K through 12 Educator who made significant contributions to STEM Education • SCV Section Outstanding IEEE member who is a Young Professional • SCV Section Outstanding Service and Leadership to the IEEE • SCV Section Outstanding Engineer
